Like baking a cake, not only do you need the correct ingredients, you also need the correct tools to build your cake into something fantastic. In part two of this post we will take a look at Ollama, a tool that can help you increase your productivity, streamline your creative process, and a whole lot more. Ollama LLMs (Large Language Models) can provide instant assistance and inspiration. By leveraging the power of these advanced language models, you can efficiently tackle projects, meet deadlines, or just get ideas.

As we’ve discussed in other posts, there are many AI assistants available. Today we will go over, step by step, how to install Ollama on a Mac computer. It’s not hard, the steps are easy to follow. In a matter of minutes you will have your very own chatbot assistant set up to assist you anytime you need.

The Install Process:

Below are three videos showing the install process from beginning to end. First you will download and install the Ollama program. Then you will download the llama3 language model using the Terminal App on your Mac. There is no sound. Just follow along with the cursor in the videos.

Video 1 begins with the Ollama program download and install process, and ends showing the llama3 language model begin to download. The full download time of this particular model was approximately 10 to 15 minutes (download time will vary depending on your internet connection).

Video 2 begins with showing the last seconds of the language model downloading, and ends showing the interaction with the new chatbot. You will notice in the video that by typing /? and hitting the "Enter" key you get a list of commands. One of those commands is /bye to exit the session with your new chatbot (you can see this command being executed in the third video when signing off).

Video 3 begins with the same interaction and ends with bidding the chatbot farewell. Notice the command used to exit the chat was /bye followed by the "Enter" key.

Once you click the play button, it is advisable to click the little square at the bottom right corner of the video to watch the video in full screen mode. Full screen mode offers a better viewing experience, making it easier to follow along. Once the video completes, simply click the little white square again to exit full screen mode and move on to the next video.
